More new Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races are available from today, with a timely race in classic convertibles as the northern hemisphere passes the summer solstice.
We’re looking at the most-common lineup in Daily Races, comprising a one-make road car event in Race A, a Gr.4 event in the Race B sprint, and a longer and more tactical challenge for the Gr.3 cars in Race C.
As you’ll spot from the image above, Race A takes us to the Goodwood Motor Circuit for a single-model race using the classic 1958 Chevrolet Corvette C1. The second major update to the original ‘Vette, the ’58 car featured the new body introduced a couple of years earlier but now sported quad headlights.
You’ll need to pick up a set of Sports Hard tires for the Corvette for this race, a couple of steps up from the standard Comfort Medium, but otherwise it’ll need to be in standard form. Of course you could always borrow a vehicle, for free, which comes with the correct tires already but this does prevent you from using your own livery — even if it does make all eight standard ones available without having to buy them through the Legends Cars rotation.
It’s a short four-lap race at the challenging Goodwood course, which has plenty of ways to get very far off track indeed in an incident and that final bottleneck chicane. That could impact your Sportsmanship Rating (SR), but Driver Rating (DR) updates are turned off in this race as usual.
Race B is the usual short and sweet affair, but throws an unusual track into the mix as you’ll be taking on the reverse layout of Trial Mountain — with the tight final chicane now the tight first chicane — in the Gr.4 cars.
This one’s another four-lapper, with standard Racing Hard tires required, and it’s looking like the all-wheel drive options in the category are once again the cars of choice as the Genesis G70 in particular dominates the leaderboards right now.
We’ve got a dose of strategy for this week’s Race C, with a mandatory pitstop and two different grades of tire which are both required for the 15-lap race at Fuji International Speedway in the Gr.3 cars.
From the looks of it you’re going to need a car that’s an absolute tire champion, but also not significantly slower down Fuji’s massive straight, because the 5x tire wear multiplier — resulting in five times the normal rate of wear — is going to push both grades of tire to their limits. Racing Medium and Racing Soft are the required rubber, and both will need to get close to the end of their useful life in your two stints.
When you choose to pit is up to you, but you’re looking at a 9 Medium/6 Soft or 10 Medium/5 Soft (or vice versa) strategy. Either way you’ll need to come into the pits and change from one grade to the other, and failing to pit or failing to switch tire grades will earn you a one-minute penalty after the race.
Fuji’s pit lane entry and exit are awkward too. Watch out for overcooking it on the entry and stick right on exit, as crossing the lines will gift you a three-second penalty to be served on-track (at the start of the straight) during the race.
Daily Races are the main ranked multiplayer events in GT7. Your Driver Rating (DR) and Sportsmanship Rating (SR) are determined by your performances, updating after each race, and these are used to set your ranking and league for the game’s flagship esports series each season.
In order to access the Daily Races, you’ll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe single player hub. A PlayStation Plus subscription is required to take part.
With GT7’s Daily Races updating every Monday across the game’s life to date, the next new set should arrive on Monday, June 30.
