Gran Turismo 7’s Next Update Looks Like It’s Coming May 15

A new update for Gran Turismo 7 looks to be on its way on May 15, outside of the regular cycle of month-end updates we’ve seen for much of the game’s life to date.

While not yet announced in the usual fashion for a content update — the silhouette Tweet from studio chief Kazunori Yamauchi — the game’s official site has posted a maintenance notice for the morning of Thursday May 15. Thus far in GT7’s lifetime every maintenance notice has accompanied a game update, so this is pretty strong evidence of an update being on its way.

Quite what the update will be remains a mystery for now, especially in the absence of the silhouettes that would suggest a content update. That could mean it’s just a bugfix or similar, particularly given the off-beat timing; PD has only previously delivered one content update quite so mid-month, with the five-car, 1.27 update coming on December 15, 2022.

However players will no doubt be acutely aware that the month of April 2025 passed without a content update for GT7. This isn’t particularly unusual though: on average across the three and a bit years, we’ve seen eight content updates in every 12-month period, or about two every three months. Yamauchi himself has previously stated that content updates are not monthly by design.

One reason for April passing without an update arriving could be the Gran Turismo World Series online qualifiers, the schedule for which saw races running every Wednesday and Saturday from April 2 through to this coming Saturday, May 10. Polyphony Digital has previously left gaps in online qualifying schedules to insert updates, possibly in case something goes awry and needs addressing with a patch. Golden Week, a public holiday in Japan, may have also played a role.

With only a week to go until this probable update arrives, we’ve still got a little time to wait and find out. If the usual content update process is adhered to, we’d be expecting a silhouette post from Yamauchi some time over the weekend of May 10-11 to tease any upcoming car content (and the usual forum guessing-game as to what they are), so keep watching for all the latest as we get it.
