I tried to tackle Lemans again and watched a few top leadeboard guys replays and almost managed to get a 3:12 lap time but it got invalidated which can be annoying on this track, which sucks but hey this is my time so far, gotta keep chugging!

3 laps in a row my lap was invalidated on the right hand kink coming into Indianapolis.

So frustrating, but because it is close to the end of the lap I keep going.

If I cop a penalty before Mulsanne I'll just restart it.

Well, i did manage to scrape of some time at the RBR with a whopping 1:29.484 from a 1:29.490 😂 😂
Never made a full lap that had all boxes checked and def. binned some better laps at the forlast right hander....
But hey.... progression has been made with a sub 1% 😂

two days away, million messages behind.... will go through them slowly, you neamwhile write more slowly than I can read 😝

Had a first test at RBR on friday and went just inside gold, but it felt very slippery territory.
Another run yesterday between Lemans and Canada I now I feel I can mark it compelte.

I also gave I quick run at Monza. I think I just used that car once, maybe, but I recall it much more nervous than what I saw yetserday. It was just a splash, so not worth to mention any time by now

Was feeling a bit ill last week so limited time spent on gaming...
Today I picked up the controller again and gave LeMans a last shot... Managed a 3.10.508 that shot me from +4.24% to +2.53% and a top 5k!

RedBull for now is silver at 1.31.5 and Monza silver at 1.49.6 so some work ahead! 💪

I am beyond frustrated with the Le Mans Time Trial. How on earth is everyone getting even near 3:11? No matter what I drive or how hard I push, I can't get anywhere near that.

Le Mans TT is the first long-form TT I've done so far. I'm glad it's at least with proper race cars and tires, but I haven't decided yet whether or not I like the time demand.

without actually checking your lap and where you can gain time, I would guess that you are braking more than needed? this track has so many straight lines so make sure you exit from corners in highest possible speed your skills can handle, example, there is right turn just exactly after first split time (30 seconds into the lap) try not to brake so much there and carry as much speed you can into the right turn that leads into loooong straight line. I think I was upshifting there to 6th gear from the very turn in, try and tell us if it goes any faster. (then of course last two horrible S S chicanes... same guessing, braking more than needed?)

To add to Barareklam i'd say: use all of the curbs! In those tight chicanes in the first and last sector this makes a huge difference in the speed you can carry thru.

EXCEPT Arnage, stay of the curb at Arnage! It unsettles the car more than you can gain....
As someone who himself struggled to get below 3:13, than to get to a low 3:11, all this above!

I watched @Tidgney's guide, which as always helped a lot. Obviously, I can't hope to even remotely replicate what Tidg does but the general guidance is very important:
  • Dunlop chicane: use the curbs hard
  • I take the esses after Dunlop in 3rd, I need to downshift for the rotation
  • one of the MOST important parts: Tetre Rouge... just dab the break, personally I'm in 5th. The no chicane variant means 6 kms of straight, you need every bit of speed you can get at that left turn
  • I aim for a sub-1:00.5 in the first 2 sectors to have a decent chance for a low 3:11. To do that, you need the curbs at the Dunlop chicane and you need a good run at Tetre Rouge
  • Mulsanne corner: I think I brake roughly at the same place as Tidgney. I use a wheel and a rig, so I can jump really hard on the Logitech pedals - the rig helped me immensely to improve overall. A nice right turn again is crucial as the run to Indy is long, you almost go up to the same speed as on the Mulsanne - just don't hit the bollards :)
  • Indy: again, watch the guides where to break - my braking point maybe a touch earlier than the aliens do it but I suck anyway :) I drop down to 2nd and by the time I turn left I'm already in 3rd. I take a lot of curb both in the inside and the outside as I accelerate to Arnage and I still spin out fairly regularly in 3rd. In 2nd that would be basically 100% hit rate :)
  • Arnage: as @DDK-Racing says, do NOT take the curb, that's bad for you - still, a decent turn is absolutely needed, you go up to 7th towards the Porsche curves
  • Porsche curves: you can't be under 140 mph at the starting right, otherwise you lose too much time. I drop to 5th (as per the guide), go up to 6th and lift slightly at the second right. I tried full throttle, always ran too wide and invalidated the lap before turning left at Karting/Corvette
  • Karting/Corvette: I take it in 5th, aiming for 130 mph (as per the guide). The Corvette left is a menace, use the force (Tidgney's voice for me) - I need to lift at the very least and take a leap of faith when turning left. Super easy to invalidate the lap by running wide
  • Ford chicanes: I brake around half of the pit entrance and drop to 3rd for the 1st chicane and then brake a little more but stay in 3rd for the 2nd one. Take a lot of curb, again as per the guide.

Of course, no idea whether I can do it again, ever since I got the gold time Friday evening, I haven't done another attempt :)

I was going to return to LeMans to improve my Gold time, but then I remembered I want to keep my sanity, so I'll leave it in the hope that someone doesn't blitz it in the final hours, love the track, dislike the car.

Then, onto the Red Bull Ring, and having tried several of the Gr3 cars, I settled on the Mitsubishi; that straight-line grunt is pretty impressive. My optimum time is pretty good but nailing it all in one lap is a challenge for me, I'll ace the 1st 2 sectors only to bugger up the 3rd or vica versa. Pretty happy so far, and I've figured that braking late is a killer even if it feels faster.

Fresh livery up for the Mitsu too 😎

Well I was hoping my post would be deleted as the issue I had was...embarrassing.
Ok so here's what happened: Now read carefully the track name:

Now take a wild guess what the embarrassing thing I did was. Only clue I can give is that somehow, Certain parts of the track didn't click to me and that it took watching a ghost from one of the top times for it to finally occur to me...

Circuit de la Sarthe - days 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9

Gazillion deaths at Tertre Rouge...
Few dozens of red laps, but mostly restarts...
Minimal improvements (in a scale of hundredths)...
The frustration meter still in the low levels though...

Circuit de la Sarthe - day 10 (today)

The afternoon session went pretty good.
In about an hour a very decent lap of 3:10.287 came, yet clearly with mistakes at Porsche and very sketchy exit from the final chicane.

I was calm and very positive about the prospect of improving this.
Walked the dog, sat down with the Wife to watch a show (we're re-watching The X-Files now - "Folie à Deux", what a banger episode), did the usual evening duties.

When everything settled down and everyone went to sleep - this is MY time.

Put on the "comfort zone" music in the background, "Space Night", the Elektrolux series (if you know, you know).
Started hitting those laps, knowing by now the whats and hows, I just patiently waited to get the Tertre Rouge validated, got ready through Les Hunaudières and then the actual lap begins.

About 25 minutes into the session I hit Mulsanne just right, Indianapolis and Arnage with clear improvement over my ghost, Porsche without error. This was getting serious. Exit from Corvette was a bit cautious as I didn't want to go red (saw the ghost creeping up a bit after it). Ford was quick and tidy and the final chicane, although ran with the right tires over the bulge, I didn't loose much traction and accelerated firmly out of it:

That felt damn good!

Tertre Rouge wasn't the best, but it almost never is, Corvette could be better, every corner could be improved a bit, but with my usual optimals at mid 3:09s I can't really ask for much more.

After reviewing replay, the esses leading to Tertre Rouge looked like this:
TT-LeMansGr1-almost4-tooclose.jpg

Here it looks like a lot of space, but with directional buttons it's just too close for comfort. 😬

I think I will settle with this result. More tries would only result in frustration going through the roof.

It feels selfish, but I am glad that the Group C cars were nerfed in the physics updates of late, because if the Mazda 787B was still the meta here I would seriously struggle with reaching the gold zone and here and now I can brag about golding the TT at Le Mans with Gr.1 car!

If the upcoming TT change brings up the Nordschleife, I'll be back!

Guilty of doing that too sometime last week when I was testing. My muscle memory has me looking for the chicanes. lol
I think we can start some Chicanes Anonymous Group.

Ahhhhhhhhhhh... So far here but it was scruffy and there's too much time left on the table to feel done, though I certainly feel done. Mentally and physically depleted. ****ing 1,200 kms in and I can pretty much count on my hands the times I've entered Hunadières with a good lap opportunity. The success rate through Dunlop and and Tertre Rouge is genuinely embarrassingly low.

Excuse the question if it's already been asked and answered at some point but why the D-pad? Why not the stick? Habits, I suppose (?) but it's a shame because you're held back.

The last 2 days there was no improvement in the lap time for me, but i found a safer, but still fast turn in point for Tertre Rouge. I always almost immediatly touched the brake and turned in after i reached the blue paint on the right of the track. Now i turn in a bit later, so i avoid to invalidate the lap. I was pretty surprised this is as fast as my earlier approach.
The clock at the end of sector 2 shows usualy somthing between 59,4 and 59,7.

My problem yesterday and today was/will be, that i'm no good at TT'ing after a day in the office 😢 I wouldn't mind this TT would take 4 weeks :D
